‘The Walk’

‘The Walk’, a great workplace-based installation, signed by Michele De Lucchi.
The project conceived by architect Michele De Lucchi, which will characterise the upcoming Salone del Mobile and the office world in particular, is taking shape.
Inseriamo disegno omini che camminano
In a continually and rapidly evolving world, the office is the space most susceptible to transformation triggered by social, economic and cultural change. Workplaces become fluid landscapes, the office of the future flouts convention, is invariably different and is a catalyst for innovation.
This is what inspired ‘The Walk’, a metaphor for the importance of never standing still. Even in the office, it is more important to keep moving than to stand still and both internal and external landscapes have a fundamental bearing on how an office comes to be. Paradoxically, spaces like a reception area or a kitchen, a patch of green where least expected, a particularly comfortable meeting room and a pleasant means of accessing one’s own workstation matter a great deal more than the workstation itself.
An installation divided into four themed areas – Club, Working Space, Agorà, Laboratories – is the expression of this vision, reflecting the designer’s theories about the workplace.

Club
This area contains the waiting room, the room destined for conferences and meetings, the cafeteria and the kitchen. Everything inside the Club is arranged to optimise the work process and also to satisfy the need for a cup of coffee or a bite to eat at any time during the day and night. The meeting room can accommodate a private discussion between two people or an animated meeting of 20 people. Those trying to make a positive decision will be able to walk around, concentrate and cogitate.
The old dusty waiting rooms have become a thing of the past, evolving to become spacious, comfortable and attractive; their hospitable ambience and informality make them a point of reference for open, deconstructed offices, with no desks and no obligation to be present.
Working Space
A workspace should serve to promote the exchange of ideas and skills – on which the creative and productive process is founded – while fostering the right balance between the need to collaborate and the need to concentrate in private. The office environment should be a stimulating place in which relational context plays a decisive role: it nourishes the creativity of individuals and boosts the power of group work.
Agorà
A pavilion designed to cater for meetings of various different kinds: conferences, presentations, screenings, exhibitions and shows.
Laboratory
It is inside the laboratory that the creative process takes shape, boasting a print facility, a 3D print facility, a studio for manufacturing prototypes and for manual work and a server that powers all the computers.
‘The Walk’ workspace is surrounded by greenery: a garden with benches, hothouses, aviaries, aquariums and gazebos offers ample choice of where and how best to accomplish one’s work.
Art enters the workplace and becomes an integral part of it.
